Charity Football Match
Charity Football Match
Last year, mother and daughter Natalie and Kerys Roberts organised a special football match in memory of their beloved father and grandfather, Peter Roberts, who passed away after a brave battle with cancer. Speaking last year, Natalie said “The treatment dad received at Velindre meant we had him for longer. He was determined to stay around to see his great granddaughter Rosie smile and take her first steps, which he did, and for that we will be forever grateful. We wanted to raise money for Velindre to give others that opportunity.”
Due to the incredible success of last years football match, the family decided to make this an annual event. Natalie told us “We are doing this event as a yearly thing as Velindre were really kind, helpful and supportive to dad when he was having his treatment.”
The girls then went on to tell us about this years match, which was against Pete’s team v College. “Pete’s team drawed 6-6 but went on to win on penalties. The team mascots were Rosie and Holly, sadly dad never got to meet Holly as he lost his fight last April to Cancer and Holly arrived this year. He would have been looking down smiling seeing the 2 girls kitted out in Pete’s team tops.”
The 2018 match took place on the 3rd June and raised over £1,800.00 for Velindre!! We are so overwhelmed by this incredible donation and by the kind & continued support we have had from Natalie, Kerys, all of the players, the adorable mascots – Rosie & Holly, and everyone else who contributed towards this outstanding donation. Thank you all.
